Miles × selected rate (IRS or custom CPM).
Gross minus vehicle expense.
15.3% × 92.35% × net after vehicle.
Net after vehicle minus the SE estimate (if on).
How to read the result
Vehicle expense is miles × rate. Net after vehicle is gross minus that line. SE tax, when enabled, is 15.3% × 92.35% × net after vehicle. Net after SE is what remains for planning. For quarterly dates and Form 1099 basics, see the 1099 and taxes guide.
Frequently asked questions
What is the IRS mileage rate for 2026?
2026 is a split year. The standard business mileage rate is 72.5 cents per mile from January 1 through June 30, and 76 cents per mile from July 1 through December 31. Toggle the half of the year that matches your miles.
How is self-employment tax estimated?
SE estimate = 15.3% × 92.35% × net after vehicle (gross minus miles × rate). We do not also subtract the deductible half of SE tax — that belongs in income-tax filing, which this widget skips.
Does this calculator publish a national hourly wage?
No. Per-clock-hour is only your net after SE divided by the hours you typed. It is never a scraped or invented national average, and it never appears in the page title or H1.
